Major Archetype VII: The Connector

Major Archetype VII: The Connector

(Commonly known as “The Lovers”)

Core Meaning

The Connector represents choice guided by values.

This archetype reflects moments where decisions are no longer neutral. Where what you choose actively shapes who you become — and what you lose. The Connector is not about romance. It is about alignment.

It appears whenever you must choose between:

  • Comfort and integrity

  • Desire and responsibility

  • What feels good now and what remains sustainable later

There is no correct choice promised here. Only ownership of consequence.

Healthy Expression

When expressed in a balanced way, the Connector shows:

  • Clarity of values

  • Willingness to commit

  • Acceptance of trade-offs

  • Consistency between belief and behavior

The healthy Connector understands that choosing one path always means not choosing another — and accepts that without resentment.

Distorted Expression

When distorted, the Connector becomes conflicted or dishonest.

Common signs include:

  • Avoiding commitment

  • Trying to keep incompatible options alive

  • Rationalizing desire as necessity

  • Blaming circumstances for personal choices

This is where people pretend they had “no choice” to avoid guilt or accountability. The distorted Connector wants outcomes without sacrifice.

Common Self-Deceptions

  • “I didn’t really choose this”

  • “I can have both if I’m careful”

  • “This isn’t a real decision yet”

  • “I’ll deal with the consequences later”

These beliefs delay clarity — and compound damage.

Questions for Reflection

Be direct. Avoid moral performance.

  • What decision am I currently postponing?

  • What value is truly guiding my choice — not the one I claim?

  • What am I afraid to lose if I choose honestly?

  • Where am I pretending neutrality to avoid responsibility?

Writing Exercise

Choose one unresolved decision in your life.

Write:

  1. The two paths clearly, without justification

  2. What each choice requires you to give up

  3. Which option aligns more closely with who you claim to be

Alignment is proven by action, not intention.

The Uncomfortable Truth

Every choice costs something. Pretending otherwise is how people stay stuck. The Connector doesn’t trap you. It exposes you. You are not defined by what you want — you are defined by what you choose to stand behind.
